Asperger Syndrome (AS) is a neurodevelopmental condition, not a mental illness. It is a "cognitive style."
Note: AS can resemble bipolar disorder, since many with it have problems with mood regulation, anger, impulsivity, irritability, rigid thinking, etc... (Without bipolar 1, the mood swings would be a lot shorter than the minimum 1 week required for that diagnosis.)
The difference between the two conditions is repetitive behaviours, obsessions, routines, poor social skills and hypo or hyper senses, that have been present since childhood.
