It was not the usual situation that will trigger her although this other person was talking about being abused herself as a little girl. Has that happened to anyone else? Even if they are not active lately are they still there if I don't hear them in the background like others talk about?

 hey Farm Gal....thought I'd throw my two cents in.I "hear " my alters a lot...most of the time I am able to tune them out... then it just sounds like background noise. BUT I have just recently ( maybe I'm maturing or something....if there is such a thing as maturing with your System) I am learning that if a part is going on and on about something and we ignore him/her or tell them to be quiet they just get loader; even aggravated....so now I say to the part that is "going off" okay go for it we will listen and when we do listen;... they say whats on their mind and there is internal peace. Sometimes if I cant get some one to shut up we let them write down what they want to say,I learned this the hard way because for me and my System if we don't write it down or listen to who ever is talking then in side that part will "add page after page "to whatever is going on with that part.My T ....and I just learned this too....if a part is Triggered....no matter how ...then that part will go nuts inside and sometimes we will be trying to sleep....but if I acknowledge that part and let them speak ...then , That part says whatever and will shut up.Sometimes my kid parts get real active at night and we have to tell them to "go to sleep and no one better make a peep!" ....but as with all kids one kid will always say" peep!" I guess what I'm saying at least for me and my System is they need to get stuff off their chest too..so let them get it out and you will find some peace....if I'm way off here I apologize FarmGal
