Been to rehab a number of times, both residential and outpatient. I actually prefer outpatient.
Residential was in a private psych hospital, and was pretty good. Shared rooms, and institutional food, but really lovely grounds, & I was there during the summer so it was nice to be able to sit outside. Started each day with a mandatory walk around the grounds, I wasn't wild about that. We had groups every day, but there was a fair bit of downtime. It was a strictly 12 -step based program, so we talked about the steps a lot and everyone had to attend AA or N/A every day.
Outpatient was 5 1/2 days a week for 10 weeks. It was run by a public hospital and wasn't 12-step based. Instead focused much more on a bio/psych/social model. All groups when we were there, some were discussion, some were educational where we'd see videos about addiction. Ramdon blood and urine screens.
I actually preffered the outpatient, because you got to learn how to live sober with the support of the program, but still had to manage with the rest of your life when you weren't in group. Resedential makes it really easy to stop as you have no access.
I hope you have a good experience, and that it helps you.
