Lamictal, is great, but if your Bipolar, consists of more manic or hypomanic episodes vs depressive, you may need a different mood stabilizer or something in adjunct with the Lamictal.
Lithium is excellent for Bipolar-I, my brother had been on it for years, for he use to have very agitative and even violent, manic episodes.
Lithium has been around for many years, has the longest track record, and is formulated in different types, I had been on Lithobid vs Carbo Lith, it was mild, I had no side effects, and was non-sedating allowing me to function, drive, and work.
Lamictal is great in that way too, excellent for Bipolars with severe depressive episodes and mild manic ones.
Again, I think you would benefit by talking to the prescibing physician. You may also benefit by combining pdoc visits with a therapist.
I wish you lots of luck with this, keep the faith.
