Sounds perfectly rational to me that you're hanging back - you've just met the guy! I would be more worried if you just told us you were madly in love and gonna marry him. Sounds like maybe things are moving a bit too fast and it's scaring you a bit. Maybe just tell him to slow down a bit, that there's no need for urgency, you're not going anywhere, and see what happens! But seriously, I think what you're feeling is normal. You're protecting yourself. And honesty is key in relationships, so when you're comfortable, tell him what's on your mind!
