Yes, we're governed by copyright law here. It does provide for exceptions called "fair use." Under those exceptions, you're welcomed to post small excerpts (e.g., parts of a song lyric, like a single verse, are fine).

As for images, again, many images are copyrighted, so you have to be aware of whether it is or not before you use it. You are welcomed to use an image you're not completely sure of, however, and if we receive notice it is copyrighted, we may be asked to remove it.

Sorry it's not clear cut yes or no, but that's the state of copyright.
