Melatonin is a hormone that is secreted in the brain, I know several people who have taken it and found it to be helpful. Here is some information on it http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/melatonin-000315.htm

I understand your reluctance to take medication, I have felt that way many times. Maybe just look into it in case you continue to experience insomnia.
