FYI if the insurance companies backed by the La state dept of insurance had dealt fairly with people putting in claims, a large protion would have not needed the help from the feds or state. I was told by the adjuster for homeowners La. Citizens by the damage and the way things look, trees pointing in different directions it was also wind damage.Dopler radar indicated atleast two dozen tornadoes in my immidiate vicinity and a witness that got stuck there(ended up tied in a tree winds took all his clothes except shorts, even took his false teeth, he handed out notorized statements, insurance company threatened him to make him stop) La citizens waited till I asked if I could clear the land, are they done, they said yes. As soon as I cleared property they sent another adjuster who took pictures of the cleared slab and stated it was all flood damage. This engineer/adjuster had No experience what so ever doing surveys of damage.
I went to arbitration with the state and La Citizens, they offered $3,200 dollars for 3 windows and the ceiling in my house. I refused and they countered with 12K I refused again.
I sued and got just enough, along with money for elevating to rebuild. There was an elderly couple 70's ahead of me and they got the same raw deal they left with the 12k the standard offer.
If the state had dealt with everyone honestly a vast majority would have not needed the mitigation funds from the get go.
I also had to shell out $5,500 dollars for a new septic tank and system (old one worked just fine) because of Jindals Greener La. project.
Then Jindal steps in and takes whats left for pet projects.
St Bernard parish is empty because people didn't have money to rebuild not from the threat of flooding.
The state and buisnesses got most of the money.
Jindal also turned down funds for health care because it would have limited his control.
Jindal doesn't care about people just money and budgets...
Government of the people, by the people for the people...
