Hi

Is it normal to feel really panicky about starting a family?

I'm not sure how I would cope... I don't mean finacially.... I mean... how do you know when you feel emotionally ready?

Thanks

I think it's perfectly normal to feel anxious about making such a huge life changing decision. Having a family isn't like going out to buy a pair of platform shoes. If the shoes are uncomfortable and you have trouble adjusting to them you can drop them off at the Goodwill and be done with them. You can't quite do that with children.

I also think being anxious is in some way a sign that you are mentally ready. You realize that there is a lot involved and a lot to think about. Emotionally, only you can figure that out. Have you spent much time with children? If not perhaps you should seek out friends and family members and spend some time around their children and maybe even take care of their children for an afternoon just to see how it feels for you.
