When you are in such bad shape that you cannot function, you are suicidal, the depression is out of control, what the hospital does for you is (1) allows doctors to make faster, more significant medication adjustments since they can monitor you 24/7 for any problems and I was able to see my pdoc daily so he could adjust meds as needed (2) allows you to be away from outside stresses and be somewhere where you are completely safe from yourself so you can rest physically and emotionally. I've never had any "intravenous" work done inpatient so I'm not sure what you are talking about there. There are groups available to work on various skills, etc., although compared to the two items I listed above, they are of much more minor help. Diet was really not an issue. Food is basic hospital fair.
