Sorry he wasn't very nice to you; it's good that he recognizes it, just make sure you keep a clear head about it; remain objective and follow your heart and the advice you would give. If this is a pattern of his behavior, then you know what to do...if this is how you allow him to treat you, with no retaliation, he knows what he can get away with.
