I'm surprised, background checks are suppose to be done. I worked for a firearms wholesaler,police and even other govt.workers purchased from us, I got interested in trap shooting, etc. got my permit, the company even had on site a seller's permit in my name, in fact even if one wasn't a full time salesperson,but verbally over the phone took orders to process, they had to have a seller's permit on the premises.
I do not know what state this person resides in, but some states have tougher laws, and getting a firearms permit is not processed lightly.
Also if the police have been involved over the years with him being brought to hospital,that is usually on record, and it would be highly unlikely he'd be able to get a firearm's permit, and/or pistol permit.
I hope someone will be able to gather more info.
