I don't feel one manages emotions; one just feels them. They are felt to help us, inform us about what is going on with us inside and how we are perceiving things outside. They are not meant to be assailants?

If you are still in an adversarial role with your feelings, are trying to manage/control them, I'd talk about that. "Surviving" depressed states, is that what you want for your future, to "survive" or do you want to live?
