No, I wouldn't say it's sad at all.

It makes me very happy to think that you are interested in being introspective -- in "figuring it all out." This is a scary venture at first, isn't it? But once you do it, you feel compelled to do it, and realize that the hardest part was just being scared to take a look under the covers.

The really nice thing - and the secret - about doing introspection is that you never find things you're ashamed or scared of; all you find are parts of yourself that need healing and love. This is where true confidence, wisdom, knowledge, and self-esteem come from.

One thing I would recommend is to not expect any medicine to turn everything in your life around: people with ADD very often have a lot of guilt and anxiety as a result of people (including themselves!) treating them unfairly, and not taking the time to understand and accept them for who they are as people. For this, I personally recommend meditation, and the book You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid, or Crazy?. I also recommend Buddhism! I have found Buddhism to be very helpful in discovering what life is really about -- what the core truths about reality are. Buddhism helped me to see my discontentments and upsetness, and to discover what they were really about. I believe Buddhism can be a great asset and ally for ADD people -- and anyone in general! It's not a religion as much as it is a way of living and seeing the world. And it comes along with meditation, which is invaluable. Whether you follow Buddhism or not, I believe meditation is very important for ADD and in general.

Just take it a day at a time! Life isn't lived all at once; don't hold yourself to some goal you think is important; each day, take a step that makes you happy. The daily steps you take, each of them is victory, and achievement. You're working very hard and you deserve a moment in which to appreciate all you've done to take care of the most important person in the world -- you.
