I think you're probably bipolar II, since you don't seem to have any significant manic behavior going on. Bipolar IIs typically aren't suicidal or otherwise self harming, and though primarily have depressive episodes may become hypomanic--given to talkfests or sometimes irritable periods. There's a lot more to it than that, of course.

It sounds as if you've been diagnosed recently. You don't mention having a therapist or psychiatrist or any kind of medications ... are you handling this on your own? Did whoever told you that you're bipolar give you guidelines to follow? How do you have a sense of what to do when you feel any particular way?

Actually, I'm pretty impressed with how you're doing. Exercise is a great outlet, one I've used for years. I was originally diagnosed when I was 8 as being depressed, & and it wasn't until about four years ago that they finally figured out I'm bipolar ... thank heavens!!

I was hospitalized for depression when diagnosed bipolar. At that time among my symptoms were a persistent feeling of emptiness, irritability, and occasional panic attacts--they went into the bipolar diagnosis and I receive two medications for them. All those symptoms have disappeared, and neither medication has caused any problems.

I tell you this just in case you haven't seen a doctor and these problems that you're having persist ... you don't need to be miserable. My opinion, anyway. Medications aren't the only way to go ... there other things to try. I'm wondering what sort of information you've gotten or work you've done so far.

If I can be of any help, let me know.

my dr hasn't told me what type of bipolar i am. i've been officially diagnosed by several drs. i know it's not type 1 for sure since i only get hypomanic.
i'm currently on 4 meds, 2 of which are mood stabilizers. i rarely have suicidal thoughts but they have happened and my dr thinks it happens during mixed states which are the worst for me...
i'm probably just due for another dose increase which is what i DON'T want since i wanna get off my meds eventually
