Oh I am sure that when a Therapist asks you to fill them in...they really mean it! Saying you "aren't so well" is a good beginning (it tells them how you are assessing yourself) but they will want to know why you are feeling that way..if you know...and what kinds of things have been happening (in case you aren't sure why you feel poorly, the T can often figure it out from how and what you relate to them.)
Remember, there aren't very many ppl who pay a therapist so they can go in and tell them how wonderful their life is!

Do your best in sharing...they need to know, imo.
