I'm in a hospital environment for my job, so IVs don't bother me emotionally, although they can be painful, especially in certain areas of the arm or if the nurse or you aren't cooperating. I wish you all the best in getting through it and the recovery process. Try to keep in mind that the surgeons are very well-trained, read the results of the procedures so they already planned ahead and know what they're up against. If you haven't had surgeries in the past where you're fully under, don't worry about the IV. It may hurt, although it's necessary but once you're given the facial mask with whatever sort of gas they use, you're going to be out like a light. I've had several surgeries, a few of which were in the last 2 years and each time, no matter the worry or anxiety, it turned out perfectly fine.
