I take things in public. No biggie.
Can't take things without water, though. They would get stuck.
Sometimes I forgot to hide my pill bottles at work and they were out where people could read them if they were nosy enough. So I had to start reminding myself to stash the zip-lock bag full of drugs back into my large handbag.
Don't worry about taking meds in public.
What grosses me out, though, is when a diabetic friend takes shots at the dinner table.
