I think it's up to both therapist and client to work out an agreement beforehand on how a situation like this should be handled. If a client is using this as a way to get gifts, I would think they would keep doing it over and over again. Hopefully the therapist would recognize what's happening and confront the client about it.

I can see how this might be a problem in some client/therapist relationships. If a client is purposefully not returning T's stuff, there is an issue there that needs to be addressed. I don't see the point of lying to a therapist when we pay them to help us figure ourselves out.
