FallingRocks, I agree with you. I have no desire to get a Fire either. To me it just seems more like an iPad or something like that.
I love the simplicity of the regular Kindle. I didn't have any problems getting used to the E ink either. I found it very easy to read, easier than a regular book.
I grew up surrounded by librarians, I was raised with a love for books, I was raised to respect books. When I was around 10, I helped my godmother restore an ancient library at a castle, with books bound in pigskin, from the 1400's, things like that. It was amazing. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I will never forget it. The huge shelves, the feel of the old books, the pigskin, the old pages, the smell of the whole place. For me, it was an adventure.
For that reason, I resisted the Kindle for a long time. Eventually I cracked. And I found I loved it. The small size, the selection of books always by my side, the option to try out all kinds of books for free, without knowing if I would like them, but not having to worry about spending money on them. Being able to get new books even when flat broke.
I'm passing on the love for books to my children. I always make sure they have plenty of books and that they read them too (I have to read to the little one, he can't read yet). And I make sure that they treat them right. Books are not to be thrown on the floor, tore up, colored in, anything like that. Books are to be respected.
But I still want another Kindle.
