I have a supervisor who is hard to underrstand and i knwo another lady who is an excellent worker and her boss is nitpicky and overly critical but it has less to do with criticism of the person's performance and more to do with their own stress of juggling everything they have to juggle too. They also have stresses that grate on them and if one little thing seemss to upset the apple cart, they can get snooty and b*tchy. It is human nature.
It is not nice to be on the receiving end of that reaction, I agree. I get it from my supe too often myself. I no notice, though, that there are times she also picks on other people besides me. So I know I am not the only target of her reactions.
I have been in the work force for 30 years and I still take things personally when a supe gets upset with a performance of mine, but i am learning to let it go, thanks to co-workers. They also have to deal with her and it helps to know I am not the only one.
When these things happen, I remind myself of a moment when my supe walked past me, with only a couple of minutes left to my shift, and she asked if I had done a certain chore. She didn't even stop to wait for a response from me...she just kept walking. My coworker looked at me and did the sound of a cat growl and I smiled and walked away to sign off my shift. Maybe when your boss throws a temper tantrum...think of a cat growl and continue on with your day.
