My husband has had RSD since 1985. They implanted a morphine pump in 2001 which has cut his pain by 50-70% and he no longer has to take any oral pain meds. Since the morphine goes directly to the nervous system rather than having to go through his whole body like oral morphine, his dose is only a fraction of what he had to take orally and he has no side effects. He would not be able to function without his pump.

Remember to stay as mobile as you possible can. The less you do, the more problems with atrophy will set in. I know. Easier said than done, but immobility is the enemy with RSD. Never use ice on the affected limb; ice will make the RSD worse.
