I could be wrong, but I don't think "temporary" insanity was the issue here. She'd been treated for mental illness including psychosis for years, according to reports I'd seen. Someone who is severely depressed may plan suicide for days, down to tiny details. I certainly would not call that behavior that is free from the influence of a mental illness.
