My last therapist SKR and I called this type of stuff - awareness therapy. Basically paying attention to how I feel and my surroundings, people around me, colors, sights, smells, tastes, sounds, textures and my emotional feelings. Doing this kind of stuff helps me alot. I have DID and part of that is that when I am triggered (upset by something) I mentally daydream in my mental safe place and act out the memories that have been separated and stored in my unconscious level of thinking. "awareness therapy" is a part of my life in therapy and outside of therapy for example when I cook I pay attention to the smells, textures and so on and what they are making me feel, The same when I go biking, for a walk, grocery shopping, or even just sitting watching a movie on tv, and paying attewntion to the colors and so on, taking a bath I use scented bubble bath and bath oils, and experiement with what type of things make what kind of textured and consistancy of bubbles. I love doing awareness therapy because there is so much to explore and have fun with. I have been doing this now for 5 years and have not had any problems because I was doing it but lots and lots of benefits from it.
