Cutting is an addictive behavior. I think that what makes this or any addictive behavior so hard to stop is that it is how we cope with life. We might not even have another way to deal with the problems that make the addiction necessary. Addictions don't happen if there isn't a reason for them - it might be depression or a lot of stress or something that is bigger than the available resources we have to cope with it.

The thing is, while cutting may be getting you through the day, it just doesn't do anything about the real problems. The only way to beat it is to find an effective way to address those feelings and the stuff that is going on in your life. For almost everyone, that is something we need help with because if we could have learned how to cope more effectively without any help, we already would have done that.

Most of us here have probably felt the way that you are feeling. I know that I have. Sometimes I still really want to revert to cutting, and I'm not sure that I won't give in to it again, but I've almost made it for six months now. It gets better with the right help. Do you have a therapist so that you can work on that?
