hes probably reached a stage in his life where he needs a little bit of space. he obvioulsy cares alot about you, and its probably upsetting him how things are going. but dont doubt what you had, it sounds genuine, you cant fake things like that.

maybe if you contacted him and ask him how hes feeling right now, see if he wants to open to you, if he doesnt dont take it personally. but if he does let him, and then you can open up to him. ask him if he needs space, and if he does, tell him you will be waiting for him for when he needs you again.. it sounds like he just needs some space, but to know a freind will be waiting for him.
