You can also get liquid iron called ferodan, probably similar to what Hamster uses, but maybe that's just what we call it up here. You should be able to get it at any pharmacy I would think, but I know here they keep it behind the counter so you have to ask for it, but no script needed.
Word of warning, liquid iron is a hard swallow, at least for me, it leaves a very strong iron taste in the mouth that cannot just be washed down. I've tried everything, I don't know if Hamster has this same problem, the liquid iron still makes my stomach upset, but maybe it's a person by person thing. One thing, the liquid iron is much much much better than pill forms.
If you go with the shots, it it usually a round of shots, about 4-6 weeks once a week. The shot hurts, it's in your hip, well top of butt. It will kinda of make you drop to your knees almost as you feel the iron travel down, but after a few minutes it's all fine. With the shots, you should feel improvement quite quickly, like after the first one you'll probably even notice a difference.
