Thank you for reading this post. Is it better to apply for unemployment or short term disability after termination?

I was let go from my job today for too many absences and not performing well from my bookkeeping job. They let me go by phone so I never got to bring in my doctor's note explaining my deppression.

I doubt I will get unemployment but my doctor said maybe I can try for short term disability, since his letter was dated last week while I was technically still employed. Has anyone heard of this?
