I remember well your draft of your post to fetlife you posted awhile back, so I understand your perspective. Why not link it here? I don't think anyone is trying to pass judgment as much as to understand.

That said, given this is a fetish of yours, I don't believe it necessary to tell your parents. It would be equivalent to telling them at length any other sexual interest that you could imagine. It's not entirely an open subject. I would simply tell them you have a fascination with the time period or the history or something. It is not a lie, but it keeps your privacy intact.
