I don't think you should tell your parents straight out. There's no reason to. As close as I am to my parents, I don't let them know anything about my sexual life. They don't need to know. There's no need for parental supervision in that area.

Now as far as her question, I'd just answer that you're intrigued by WWII things. Specifically the German side. And if you want to add more detail, say their fashion of the time. It's simple and you're not lying.
