If you have bipolar, I think you need more than Lamictal. I take 400 mg. of Lamictal, but also Abilify & several other meds. As mentioned in another post Lithium works well for many people. It worked well for my moods, but had the side effect of abnormal kidney function so I had to quit it & try other things. It took me a year to find the right combo, so don't give up hope. I also hope you have an AGGRESSIVE doc who listens to you, is up on the newest treatments (including using drugs "off label", & willing to change meds if they aren't working or have too many side effects.
