It sounds like your mom is very very sensitive and fragile. Doesn't your brother know that? Why does he light into her like that? Doesn't he know that it makes her ILL when he does that?
Perhaps you could talk to him and ask him to be more careful and gentle with her. Being that harsh with her make her ill -- he ought to be able to see that, but I guess being a man, he doesn't pay much attention. Ask him to ease up on Mom and be more gentle. Maybe she won't have to keep coming to you .
