Therapy has been hugely helpful for me as not all of my issues were straight bipolar ones. Working through the trauma and PTSD issues has relieved a large portion of my symptomology and now that the bipolarness is pretty much all that really remains, I am able to function with much more stability and have even been able to come off meds. For me, so much of my symptomology and poor coping mechanism where tangled up in PTSD that it was hard to wade through it all. Therapy helped untangle that web of thought issues, reaction issues, trauma issues, etc. so that dealing with the bipolar has become a much less "messy" (as in complicated by multiple diagnoses) task.
