I hope things get better for your friend, it sounds like you are a good friend to him ...
I know what you mean about the emotional rollercoaster ...
Try not to beat yourself up for not being "perfect". You sound like a great person for caring so much about your friend. I am no doctor, but I definitely don't think you are "crazy" (whatever that is ...)
We are always here for you, but maybe it would help to find a non judgemental person to talk to in "real life" too, like a counsellor, they can help a lot sometimes with untangling stuff...
