Back from class. The instructor is trying to explain a point of church doctrine.
Me: But that is NOT what the Bible SAYS. It says right here, X, Y, Z.
Her: It's the church's position that . . .
Me: But Jesus said, "X, Y, Z." Right here (giving her the cite).
Her: The church says A, B, C . . .
Me: I've read the philosophers that try to argue X, Y, Z equals A, B, C, but their reasoning is so convoluted and if it were a statute, it'd be clear that his inclusion of X, Y, Z means the exclusion of A, B, C.
Her: I can't answer your question and I think we both realize that by now.

And she actually said it with a big grin. I think I like her quite a lot.
