I think that it's like why couldn't I have been the one to die? Only a couple of people would be sad, not a drastic amount of sadness nor a great amount of suffering if I were the one. My disappearance would have been much more acceptable in the world than ____'s was/is.

I don't know what that's called. But that's my thought pattern that really gets me going!
