Lyle, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you referring to just mental health doctors, or doctors of all kinds?
I find when I don't have any kind of medical coverage I'm more likely to push through my problems on my own, since running to the doctor and possibly being admitted for a few days isn't a financial option. I think it's really easy to use good insurance coverage as a crutch. Why struggle on your own for 72 hours when you can run to the doctor, get on some otherwise expensive drugs, get locked up in a psych ward away from your daily problems and only pay a small co-pay?
Then again, I'm fortunate enough to not have a serious enough form of my illness to warrant admission on a regular basis, even if I did have cushy health coverage, so I can only speak for myself.
As far as medical issues, it's a little tricky to treat something that needs pharmaceutical-grade medication with over-the-counter options, i.e. infections.
