My Mom has had this very same thing happen as well. She has never been diagnosed with a mental illness, I believe in part because she works for a living and does not believe in diseases at all unless they happen to people she knows personally. This I believe, has held her back from getting the treatment that could have ultimately helped her to cope with her symptoms.

It would be best to get a small mental health check-up in my opinion and experience. It could either confirm your suspicions, or deny them, either way; a professional is the best one to consult. Don't hide anything either. There is no point in going if we are going to fear the result and end up being dishonest to "escape" the situation. This only compounds problematic situations.
