Yes, destractions & contributing to others is one of the greatest ways of getting through distressed times.....those are DBT skills that are basically just common sense even though they aren't easy......but putting away all the things that are in your life to harm you is definitely important also.....the benzos, the alcohol that counteracts any meds you take (it's a depressant & you definitely DON'T need that at this point either).
If all else fails.....get as many DVD's as you like & just keep watching them on your computer if nothing else.....it's one of my best ways of getting through bad times because my mind gets focused on the movie & can't think about myself......& I find that humorous DVD's are the best when I'm in a crappy mood....or even the irritated mood I am in now due to dealing with an idiot stbxh.
Getting together with others may not always be possible because then again, it makes us dependent on others being available & we really do need to put into place things that we can do for ourselves.......even cleaning the walls off the house.....helps at times or cooking your favorite food (not the easiest thing for me to do....but it does help to eat something that makes me feel good even with the anorexia issues I have when stress hits me.
You can make it & you will do ok.......at least one thing good, you do have PC people to help you be accountable......sometimes that's all we have to work with....but it's definitely better than nothing.
