I do not bake a lot, but when i do, I often use dates or apples to sweeten. Honey, rice syrup, molasses, maple syrup and agave are all types I have used in cooking.
I guess i am trying to reduce overall. I don't use much sugar to begin with. Unfortunately when depression kicks in, my consumption of sugary starches (read donuts) goes through the roof. I can eat three or four donuts in a sitting. So I am looking for alternatives to give me just enough sweet to reduce the cravings with the overall goal of reducing the amount over time. I've got all but rice syrup and agave in the house...I've just never used them as alternatives to sugar. Time to learn some new cooking skills
