The psychologists and psychiatrists that I have seen was just like seeing a therapist. The only difference was they gave me a prescription at the end of the first session and then I saw them weeky for the first 4-6 weeks and then they moved that to monthly for a few sessions and then every 6 months I had to see them for a med check. That is if the medication was a match which happened only once. I needed some sleeping pills and was prescribed Chloral Hydrate. Which did the job.
I have very little luck with medications through psychiatrists and psycholgists because they don't know me other then that first 50 minutes during which they write out the presciption.
So this time when DHS wanted me to try medications I instead saw my family physician, who got it right the first time by prescribing paxil. He was able to get it right because he know my reactions to any kind of medications over the past 12 years that he has been treating me.
So I no longer see psychiatrists and psychologists for my medication needs.
as for how does it feel to be on medications - that depends on your own reactions to taking medications and the type and dosage of the medication that is prescribed.
