Oh, another tip, get a step pedometer. The really simple ones are cheap, maybe $10. Where I live you can actually borrow a pedometer from the library. Studies show that your basic activity level, not from doing dedicated exercise is very important.

The difference between having a job were you sit all day versus a job where you stand or walk around all day is enormous. You burn a lot of calories without even having a set time for exercise. It's been shown that getting 10,000 steps in daily on average long term will lead to weight loss.

It's as simple as an hour walk a day or a 30 min walk and lots of pacing or getting off early at the bus stops everyday. I just got a Striiv Smart Pedometer, it's way more expensive than a normal pedometer, but it basically does the same thing. It counts steps. With mine I earn energy points when I move around and I can spend those energy points to plant things or build buildings in this game on the Striiv.

I can also use up my energy points to donate clean water, polio vaccines or save a section of the rainforest. I can do this with just my energy points. I don't need to spend any real money. It's very motivating! Also the Striiv gives you mini challenges throughout the day that give you bonus energy, things like "I challenge you do climb 200 stairs in the next 15 mins or something. I find myself climbing way more stairs then I would have otherwise have done, to get the bonus energy points!

Again the Striiv is a bit expensive, mine was $100, but a basic cheapo pedometer basically does the same thing without the games aspect of it. If you're motivated by shear data, a regular pedometer would be fine. I need the games. LOL It's really making me realize when I'm just sitting doing nothing.

Instead of sitting around I find myself getting up every few minutes to climb a bunch of stairs or pace around until I meet a goal. Instead of taking two buses to work, I walk 25 mins to catch the second bus now when the weather is good. So far, since I've gotten it I've walked over 10,000 steps everyday and average about 700 steps climbs upstairs per day!
