Being dissociative I have had many "out of body"experiences. at least I did before I learned how to control it by using grounding. grounding is focusing on things outside yourself to keep your self in your body and not numb, spacy and outside your self.
one of my favorites is boating on the lake. the physical act of rowing keeps me in tune with how my muscles are feeling physically as they push the our into the water, the waters resistance also helps because once I get up some speed its harder and harder to push that our down into the water as the water is pushing past the our, the smells of the outdoors and sounds of nature keep calling to my ears nose to discover what that smell is, what that noise is...
another activity I enjoy is gardening, the feel and scent of the earth, nature noises and all that comes with gardening keeps me grounded because its focusing on things outside my body.
grounding is using anything outside yourself to keep you firmly planted within your body and in the present moment.
