Hard decision. Abilify is a great drug for many adults, but I suspect there is limited research on it for kids. Two big questions: how dire is the situation and what are the other options?

I have not been in this situation, but I feel like I can relate a little because I went through a dilemma with Abilify when trying to plan pregnancy. Mothers want to do right by their kids even before they are conceived! I made my decision by consulting 3(!) pdoc's (and 2 OB's, but not relevant to your kiddo). In my case, I discovered that there was a medication that might meet my needs with a lot more research on it (Lamictal).

I would look into a 2nd opinion. In my case, my current pdoc was able to direct me to a colleague that he respected.

Good luck!
