Do you actually want to stop? I find your therapists statement a bit odd but people can only help you if you want to help yourself. Perhaps she was trying to say you have a choice also to stop and i hope she can be supportive in helping you find other ways to cope with how you feel (if this is what you want). If you struggle communicating effectively with her could you maybe right down whats concerning you and describe how you're not sure whats the best way to approach changing things? Good luck.
