Basically it's like what we learn in DBT......accept that it happened. Accepting that it happened & that you did it doesn't mean that you accept it was the right thing to do....but you also don't hold onto the fact that you did it.....it's in the past after doing it.....let it be just that....the fact you did it....it's over, & hold onto the drive to not continue doing it.

It's sort of like when you are working on a project with a hammer & slam your finger with it while trying to hit the nail......you remember that you have hit your thumb because it's something that hurt....but it's not something that you want to continue doing.....you let go of it as being something not good that you did but you don't continue to beat yourself up over having smashed your thumb with the hammer.....& you go on working on the project being more careful in the future with the hammer. Yes, you hit your thumb with the hammer....it wasn't a wise thing to do. You go on with life knowing that you have to be more careful in the future when using the hammer....but you just keep on living your life.
