Sometimes it is enough to know that other people are going through the same thing. Just the fact that knowing you're not alone can be enough.
Plus we aren't all depressed, or manic, or normal all at the same time. If you're depressed and someone else is just coming our of a depression, they see the light at the end of the tunnel and can remind you that the light is there.
