Been there. Its very real but so few people really understand. Good your connected to some professional health. I wish more social workers were trained in mental illness. Most caregivers are limited to what they have been tought and what is in their experience to understand. It good you've connected to someone who can help. When a counsellor doesn't experience success its usually the client who is blamed reinforcing the sufferer's sense of inadequacy. I had to go threw a bunch of pros before I found what I was searching for. You have a lifeline. There needs to be a much greater awareness around mental illness and caregivers need some serious training around it.
