I feel the core of my being is situated in my head pretty much right behind my eyes, which of course is impossible, because that is the spot where there is no brain, and obviously the sense of self comes from the brain as a whole. I heard there are many takes on this. After all there is an individual experience.
But I had a therapist once that said only disturbed people feel they are in their head. The normal ones feel they are in their heart (physcially).

It's ironic your therapist told you that stuff about the heart and the head. The heart is where ppl who r normal point to and the head is where the disturbed ppl point to. There is more electrical activity at the heart than the head.
