Hey everyone,

I think I made possibly the best decision I have ever made, and that was to get a new therapist. Ever since I started therapy when I was about 14 years old, I have really gotten nowhere with my therapy. I finally figured out why. No therapist I had was challenging me or trying to get me to really work hard on therapy. It seemed like therapy was a giant pity party and then I left and continued the pity party until I came back again. Have others had this same experience with CBT therapy? I found it got me nowhere.

Then I discovered a therapy practice who had several people who are trained in DBT. This was the best find I could have made. Ever since I have gotten involved in DBT, life has been a little better. I have a new therapist who challenges my negative behaviors and attitudes. I appreciate this a lot. It really seems like she cares about whether or not I get better.

I say all of this because I want people to have the courage to pursue a better therapist if your therapist is not helping you. If it takes 11 years to get a good therapist, like it did for me, it is worth it.
